Alicia Keys is celebrating her birthday in style. Choosing to commemorate her 35 years on this planet with some new music, the award-winning songstress samples Kanye West’s Life of Pablo track “Low Lights” for a standalone record dubbed “That’s What’s Up.” Today’s offering from Keys is a mood-lifting, positive effort, complete with a bathtub-based video — as the clip shows, she’s choosing to ring in the occasion with a solo, relaxing celebration.
You can check out the official audio and visual for Alicia Keys’ “That’s What’s Up” below. Previously, the singer began 2017 with a new collaboration with Kaytranada, “Sweet F’in Love.”
Smoke DZA and Pete Rock recently released the video for “Black Superhero Car” off their critically acclaimed collaborative album, Don’t Smoke Rock. For the video, the Harlem MC and legendary producer link up with Rick Ross who is also featured on the song. DZA starts the video off in Harlem, before making his way to Rozay’s Atlanta mansion where the two show off their fleet of cars. Check out the video for “Black Superhero Car” below and let us know what you think.
Diddy and French Montana got together for some drunken private jet debauchery for their new music video for “Can’t Feel My Face.” Produced by the Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E., the black and white film sees Diddy in his default black T-shirt, chains and sunglasses combo and French Montana draped in lounge wear, a robe and a white baklava over his head so that we can’t see his face. As the duo raps about mixing substances and not being able to feel their faces, clips of nightclubs and bottles of Diddy’s CÎROC liquor flash in and out. The video ends with French Montana, solo cup in hand, confessing to a buddha statue: “I have to act like you sometimes … have to act like I’m just numb to the pain ’cause I’m bleedin’ on the inside. That’s why I do the things I do.” Watch the full video below.
Late last year during the Billboard Music Awards, Diplo made an announcement that Major Lazer would be releasing a new monster single featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR and Nicki Minaj. Well, after several teasers, the song has finally arrived. Titled “Run Up,” the island-flavored cut finds the OVO singer/songwriter taking the lead as rap’s Pink Princess tops it off with some clever wordplay. A video will also be accompanying the single in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
These two are no strangers, as last summer they teamed up for an impressive showing on “LFUTP.” Today, they’re back at it again on this new cut aptly titled “Game Over.” The Jrag2x-produced banger is one of the standout singles off Rizzoo’s new Drip Flair EP that released yesterday and there’s plenty more hot tracks on the project. Drake rarely does interviews these days. It has to be a really special occasion to get him on the air for something. Insert his good friend, Kentucky head coach John Calipari and the latest episode of the “Cal Cast” podcast.
During the extensive 45-minute interview, Drake talked about his upcoming More Life playlist, his future in acting, dedicating his life to music, and much more. On More Life, Drake revealed that it’s actually a playlist he’s doing with Apple Music to bridge the gap between his major releases. “To keep people excited, give them new music, let them know I’m still hungry,” Drake said. As of right now, it’s unclear when More Life will drop, but it’s expected to be released in the very near future. “I’m doing it to be remembered as a forward thinker. I want to be remembered… as an emotion-evoking artist,” he revealed.
Aside from the details surrounding the new project, Drake also talked about having serious FOMO in the music industry. His comments are interesting and give a look into his mindset as an artist, which we normally don’t see.
At the end of the day, It’s all about the time you’re willing to put in. And, my biggest fear is always when I’m not doing it, there’s someone else that’s doing it. That’s my biggest fear in life. When I’m not doing it. When I take a night off for my personal life. When I choose to decompress or relax…not in the back of my mind, in the front of my mind, my biggest fear is if somebody’s not relaxing right now and they’re going to stumble upon something. When you get in the studio you have these moments that ultimately propel your career, you have to ask yourself how many of those did I miss by not going in on this given night or that given night. Because creating music is sometimes all about timing. It’s all about me texting this producer at this certain time… It is truly stars aligning, music is. And It’s scary to think of all the (opportunities) you miss because you didn’t sit in there. You know? So I try to not let myself have that fear.”
Naturally, Drake is focused on more than just music, and spoke openly with Cal about his future in acting and how sports have an impact on his life. “Acting is another thing that I just can’t wait to really dive into, I think after I release More Life, which is this playlist I’m working on and finish this tour,” Drake revealed. “I think I’m going to really start to position myself in the acting world and, hopefully, take some great roles.”
Earlier this week, Keke Palmer let it be known that she wasn’t trying to be in Trey Songz’s “Pick Up The Phone” video. In one lengthy post (of many) on Instagram, Palmer described having to physically hide in a closet because of whatever transpired, even going as far as to say that Songz used “sexual intimidation” during the ordeal.
During a recent visit to Larry King Now, Palmer opened up even further, describing how she even ended up in that situation, which took place at a New Year’s Eve party in Miami.
“I wasn’t in the right mind,” Keke explained. “I had been drinking and eating and it wasn’t a professional environment. It was not a place where I was like I’m in the right mind to decide if this works with my brand, if I like the artist, I don’t know nothing about the artist that’s also in the song.”
In regards to the claims of “sexual intimidation” that she allegedly suffered, Keke said that “as a female often I’m put in situations where sometimes males will use their masculinity, their sexuality to taunt you.”
“It would be like you going to a party,” she continued, “where the biggest jock is there and the whole time he’s like you can get screwed, you can get this you can get that, ‘You ain’t no little girl anymore.'”
She says she hasn’t heard from Trey directly about this situation (which did involve Keke’s footage being scrubbed from the video), but she says she does plan on taking legal action. “The video is down now,” Keke said, “but moreso my point isn’t to say it’s just specifically about this guy and what he did,” she said. “It’s the overall idea that you can’t just do stuff to people and it’s alright—no matter who you are.”
Tiny was live streaming when she declared she doesn’t need to “go back” to T.I. — but she did say someone needs to get his ass moving. It was quite romantic.
