Drake had a huge night at the American Music Awards Sunday, taking home the awards for Favorite Artist Rap/Hip-Hop, Favorite Album Rap/Hip-Hop, and Favorite Song Rap/Hip-Hop.
The 6 God gave a special speech when he won the Favorite Artist Award, beating out artists like his Summer Sixteen tourmate Future and Fetty Wap for the honor. “I want to give a big shoutout to my brother Future, and Fetty, of course, for making incredible music. I want to thank Kyla, who’s here all the way from the UK. Without her, I never would have made the song ‘One Dance,’ so shout out to her.”
Speculation that Future and Larsa Pippen might be dating continues as the two were spotted together once again. In a video obtained by TMZ, Larsa Pippen can be seen dancing right in front of Future at his Beverly Hills birthday party this past weekend.
Rumors of a relationship initially started after Future posted a Snapchat video with the message, “She mines nooowwwwwwwwww,” just days after Scottie Pippen filed for divorce. However, sources for both parties have continually denied the reports. A source that is reportedly close to Larsa claimed the pair “are friends,” according to Us Weekly, and added “Larsa’s solely focused and dedicated to her children.”
Kanye West started his Sacramento show off strong by reuniting with Kid Cudi but then abruptly ended the show after 3 songs and a rant about Jay Z, Beyonce, and the Media.
Nick Cannon stopped by The Breakfast Club and claimed he used to write for Kanye West. He said he wrote a few bars for Kanye’s guest verse on Rhymefest’s 2006 track “Brand New” that ‘Ye also produced.
“I ain’t never wrote no smashes, but I’ve been in the Kanye camps early on,” he told the Breakfast Club crew. “I was there doing ‘Gold Digger.’ I wrote the [‘Brand New’] bar for Kanye, ‘We don’t need to stunt/I make black history every day, I don’t need a month.’ That was me. Kanye’s bar. Stuff like that.” Interestingly enough, Kanye spit that same bar a few years before “Brand New” during a Def Poetry Jam session.
The second leg of Kanye West’s Saint Pablo tour kicked off in California tonight, and as a special surprise, ‘Ye decided to get some political thoughts off of his chest. Speaking for the first time since Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential election, Kanye said he didn’t vote this year, but that he would’ve voted for Trump. You can watch footage of ‘Ye making that statement above.
Not only that, but Kanye apparently doubled down on the notion of himself running for President in 2020 and said he is focused on becoming a different type of President if nobody else is up for the job. Twitter user @RaptorJesuss was on hand at the show to pull out some major quotes from Kanye’s speech. “Rappers are philosophers of our now, celebrities are the influencers of our now, just look at the President, he wasn’t in politics and won,” Kanye apparently said to the crowd.
Young Thug continues to dominate in 2016.
On Wednesday, the 25-year-old Atlanta rapper announced the official launch of his YSL Records imprint, which will be under the 300 Entertainment banner. Thugger shared the news via SnapChat, giving fans a sneak peek at the YSL office, the YLS team, and the YSL logo.
300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles was featured in the snaps giving a motivating speech about Thug’s newest undertaking.
“The most important thing I could say to all of you guys, is not whether it was 300 or YSL—look at the guy who committed to us every single day,” Liles said. “Always standing 300 with us. Him starting a new venture is going to take us to a different mindset. He’s not just an artist in this particular case.”
A month after the hyper-violent visual for recent track “False Alarm,” The Weeknd has announced two more major new songs. Taking to Instagram, The Weeknd revealed plans to drop two new records this Thursday, November 17. Titled “I Feel It Coming” and “Party Monster,” the pair of tracks are set to serve as the next singles in support of Abel’s forthcoming studio album Starboy. “I Feel It Coming” will also feature contributions from Daft Punk, the legendary French duo that previously connected with The Weeknd for the Starboy title track and lead single.
David Blaine’s new television special David Blaine: Beyond Magic premiered on ABC on Tuesday night, and it featured several celebrity cameos. One scene that stood out was Blaine’s appearance at a party with Drake, Dave Chappelle, Steph Curry, and Jimmy Butler. Blaine asked Chappelle to draw something that could fit into Drake’s hand, and after first cracking a joke about Meek Mill, the comedian opted to draw a frog.
Much to the surprise of everyone, Blaine then proceeded to throw up three live frogs into each celebrity’s water glass. He even asked Curry to check and make sure there was nothing in his mouth before regurgitating yet another live frog. Naturally, they all completely freaked out, making for one hilarious viewing experience.
Earlier this month, Soulja Boy sent out a series of now-deleted tweets in which he put a $10,000 bounty on a Chicago rapper’s head. Though he didn’t drop any names at the time, many people suspected the threats were targeted at Rico Recklezz, who had previously released a SB diss track. Now, just weeks after he made the death threats, it appears the “Crank That” rapper has had a change of heart.
In a new video posted by WorldStarHipHop, a member of Rico’s crew apparently FaceTimed SB to address the recent beef. But rather than try to squash it, the caller gives SB a taste of his own medicine and goes on to threaten 26-year-old if he doesn’t stop.
“We ain’t going to do the threats […] Don’t ever think you can put no money on no nigga’s head from Chicago, nigga, because it ain’t about no money down here,” the caller can be heard saying. “It’s easy to find you, blood. And you see you ain’t hard to find, nigga. Period […] Bro, don’t say nothing about my shorty, bro. Period.”
Soulja attempted to calm the caller down by insisting the death threats were not about Rico; however, he did say that Rico has been blasting him on the internet as well as in songs.
“He put my name in the songs, bro,” Soulja said. “Them tweets weren’t even about him, you feel me. […] I’m on paperwork right now, you dig? So we don’t even play those types of games. Ain’t nobody going put no money on nobody’s head, none of that bro. A nigga just need to holler at me. I need me and him to talk, feel me.”
The caller then says that once he gets back to Chicago, he’ll relay the message to Rico. But until then, he demanded Soulja to “cease the bullshit, especially the threats.”
It’s already clear from the first-ever ComplexCon: You never know what might happen here. That was the case during day two of the event, when Lil Yacthy and his Sailing team showed up at the Nike Air Force One installation to play some basketball against ASAP Bari and his crew. The entire game was a surprise, and fans quickly rolled to the area once they figured out what was going down.
